HDDlife Vista Gadget is the Vista Gadget of the program HDDLife. HDDLife is used to monitor the health of your computer's hard disk. Nowadays, all such programs have a vista gadget.
It makes use of the S.M.A.R.T technology, present in almost all new hard disks.SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology, or S.M.A.R.T.) is like a monitoring system (built into hardware) for computer hard disks to detect and report various parameters on reliability. By analyzing this data, we can predict future failures. So, it is a really good feature, in the sense, we could backup all our important data before a hard disk fails.
HDDLife can scan for and analyze almost all such parameter and decide whether it is of the proper value, and if the hard disk is failing, is being heated up very fast, there are many bad sectors, etc.
The Vista Gadget is a nice application, which could be installed without the actual program being run. Anyway, it uses the actual program's DLL and APIs to do the same monitoring job. The Gadget is nice, but the settings are few. We may set it to warn for critical issues, using a message or music. Time can be set to periodically check the status of hard disk.
It is a nice program and quite useful, if you have a hard disk, you think is failing, or have some important data, that you care about. |
